Drill & Blast Manager

Location: Rustenburg, North West - RSA

Roles and Responsibilities

• Oversee drilling and blasting activities to achieve optimal production and fragmentation targets.
• Manage drilling and blasting contractors, ensuring strict compliance with contractual agreements.
• Design and optimise blast patterns, timing, and explosive usage to maximize efficiency.
• Ensure full adherence to health, safety, environmental, and legal requirements.
• Monitor blast results closely and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
• Control and manage the department’s drilling and blasting budget effectively.
• Coordinate closely with geology, mining, and plant teams to align blasting schedules with overall production requirements.
• Ensure the safe handling, secure storage, and proper usage of all explosives.
• Compile and submit comprehensive reports on blasting performance, incidents, and key operational metrics.

Qualifications and Experience

• Degree or National Diploma in Mining Engineering or a related field.
• Valid Surface Blasting Ticket is required.
• Minimum of 8 to 10 years of experience in open-pit mining, with a strong, demonstrable focus on drilling and blasting.
• At least 5 years of experience in a supervisory or management role.
• Proven track record in effective contractor management.
• Prior experience in a chrome or similar hard rock mining environment will be a distinct advantage.
