Site Agent (Civil Engineer)

A well-established construction company is seeking an experienced Site Agent with a strong background in civil construction and site engineering to oversee upcoming powerline infrastructure projects.

Requirements

• Grade 12 / Matric certificate
• Diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or an equivalent qualification (advantageous)
• 5+ years of civil construction experience, including 2 to 3 years in a Site Agent or Site Supervisor role
• Prior experience working on Eskom, powerline, or electrical infrastructure projects is highly advantageous
• Extensive hands-on experience with powerline foundations, excavation, backfilling, compaction, setting out, levels, and surveying
• Proficiency in interpreting civil, structural, and powerline foundation drawings
• Competence in operating surveying equipment such as total stations, dumpy/auto levels, or laser levels
• Sound understanding of soil conditions, excavation methodologies, and foundation construction
• Proven experience coordinating earthmoving equipment and operators
• Computer literacy, including proficiency in MS Excel and Word
• Valid driver’s licence
• Willingness to work in remote locations and travel between various work fronts
• Comfortable operating under strict client health, safety (H&S), and quality requirements

Key Responsibilities

• Manage daily civil construction activities across multiple powerline work fronts
• Accurately set out tower and pole foundations according to approved drawings and coordinates
• Verify coordinates, dimensions, levels, and orientation prior to excavation and concrete works
• Oversee excavation processes and closely monitor founding conditions
• Coordinate essential excavation inspections before construction proceeds
• Manage backfilling operations and ensure required compaction standards are consistently achieved
• Coordinate multiple work crews while monitoring plant, labor, and material utilization
• Maintain accurate daily production records and track quantities against the project programme
• Promptly report delays, access challenges, unsuitable ground conditions, and technical issues
• Ensure all work strictly complies with engineering drawings, specifications, Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), and method statements
• Coordinate inspections and maintain comprehensive quality documentation
• Ensure adherence to all client health, safety, and environmental requirements
• Liaise effectively with Project Managers, Engineers, client representatives, surveyors, and subcontractors
