Miller Apprentice

An exciting and urgent opportunity is available for an ambitious, hands-on Miller Apprentice to join a leading milling operation in Bloemfontein, Free State.

This specialized program is designed for dedicated, technically minded individuals who want to build a rewarding career in the milling industry. We are looking for independent thinkers who are comfortable working with tools, possess a strong mechanical aptitude, and can perform effectively with minimal supervision. Suitable candidates may also be cross-considered for our general Technical Assistant positions to ensure we find the absolute best fit for your skills.

Requirements and Qualifications

• Education: Grade 12 / Matric with Mathematics and Physical Science. A Technical Matric or N-Stream engineering subjects (N2/N3/N4) will be highly advantageous.
• Aptitude: Exceptional mechanical aptitude with a demonstrated comfort in working practically with hand tools, machinery, and power tools.
• Mindset: A strong desire to master the highly skilled art and science of milling, supported by an uncompromising commitment to safety, hygiene, and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Apprentice Training: Actively participate in the structured practical and theoretical training program to learn the end-to-end milling process, from raw material intake to final packaging.
• Equipment Monitoring: Assist in monitoring and adjusting milling machinery, screens, roll stands, and dampers to ensure optimal grain extraction and quality.
• Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Work alongside qualified Millers to perform routine maintenance, clean downs, roll changes, and basic mechanical troubleshooting.
• Quality Control: Collect and analyze product samples at various stages of the milling process to ensure strict adherence to gristing and product specifications.
• Hygiene and Safety: Maintain immaculate housekeeping and sanitation standards within the mill, strictly complying with food safety (FSSC/HACCP) and occupational health and safety (OHS) regulations.
