Operations Engineer (Senior)

Role & Responsibilities

• Lead configuration management and automation initiatives to standardize and stabilize production environments.
• Design, implement, and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation pipelines for seamless environment provisioning and application rollout.
• Drive transition management activities for new services and major changes, ensuring a smooth, reliable handover to operations.
• Define and enforce operational processes and governance for configuration, releases, and changes.
• Act as an escalation point for critical incidents, leading post-mortem investigations and driving corrective actions.
• Collaborate with infrastructure feature teams to implement "design for run" improvements and operational requirements.
• Develop comprehensive runbooks, runtime documentation, and automation to minimize manual intervention in daily operations.
• Monitor, measure, and report operational KPIs, proposing and implementing continuous improvements to service quality and reliability.
• Support IT Service Continuity Management for business-critical processes and coordinate continuity measures.
• Facilitate onboarding, knowledge transfer, and training related to transition and operational processes.
• Participate in and, where required, establish Centers of Excellence or Communities of Practice to share industry best practices.
• Work closely with product stakeholders, security, and regulated-business teams to seamlessly integrate operational requirements into system designs.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of development processes and engineering practices.
• Ensure the security, compliance, and overall integrity of software applications.
• Actively explore use cases to implement AI tools and technologies to increase overall team efficiency and quality.
• Communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders to understand, align, and meet their technical requirements.
• Deliver effective, systematic problem-solving and implement reliable workarounds to ensure maximum system availability in line with relevant SLAs and OLAs.
• Thrive in a full DevOps environment alongside talented international colleagues and external partners.
• Perform additional responsibilities as assigned within the Agile Working Model (AWM) Team Charter.

Essential Skills

• Strong expertise in configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef, Salt).
• Proven automation skills using modern scripting and programming languages (e.g., Python, Bash, PowerShell).
• Deep knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and tooling (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions).
• Solid understanding of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) technologies (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation).
• Hands-on experience with monitoring, logging, and observability platforms (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/EFK).
• Extensive experience operating major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or equivalent).
• Expertise in change, release, and transition management practices for enterprise IT services.
• Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills for complex production incidents.
• Excellent stakeholder communication and leadership skills for driving cross-functional teams.
• Comprehensive knowledge of IT service management frameworks (ITIL) and operational governance.

Advantageous Skills

• Experience with containerization and orchestration platforms (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Familiarity with platform and middleware technologies, including application servers and message brokers.
• Experience with enterprise systems such as ConnectIT, ITSM.NEXT, and eGRC.
• Solid knowledge of core data center components covering networking, storage, and servers.
• Experience working in highly regulated environments (financial or automotive industries preferred).
• German language proficiency is considered an advantage, though not mandatory.
• Exposure to advanced DevOps and SRE practices, including error budgets, SLIs, and SLOs.
• Experience with security and lifecycle management for enterprise infrastructure.
• Familiarity with data pipelines and machine learning model deployment considerations.
• Experience with automation frameworks for testing and deployment (e.g., Terratest).
• Experience setting up or operating Centers of Excellence or Communities of Practice.
• Demonstrated experience in mentoring and coaching junior operations personnel.

Qualifications & Experience

Minimum Mandatory Qualifications:

• Degree in Information Technology or an equivalent relevant qualification.

Minimum Mandatory Experience:

• Broad IT experience, typically ranging from 6 to 10 years, with 3 to 5 years focused specifically on IT operations or operations management.
• Proven experience in transition management, backed by relevant certifications (such as ITIL Foundation and Service Transition, or equivalent).
