Senior Software Engineer

Salary: R1,000,000 per annum

Are you a hands-on Senior Software Engineer who enjoys building cloud-native products from the ground up, solving complex technical challenges, and taking full ownership from design through to deployment?

We are looking for an experienced engineer to join a high-performing, cross-functional technology team working on modern, scalable products in a TypeScript, AWS, and event-driven environment.

The Role

• Take ownership of complex features and services, working closely with Product Managers, Engineers, and QA to turn requirements into reliable, scalable, and secure software.
• Be hands-on across the full development lifecycle—from refining stories and designing solutions to writing code, reviewing pull requests, testing, deployment, and production support.
• Influence engineering standards, mentor less experienced developers, and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy high-quality, scalable software and services.
• Own complex features from initial design through to production.
• Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and QA teams to define and deliver robust technical solutions.
• Build and maintain automated unit, integration, and contract testing.
• Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure automation.
• Deploy and operate cloud-based services using AWS, Kubernetes, and Terraform.
• Monitor system health, performance, and reliability while troubleshooting production issues.
• Contribute to engineering standards, architecture, and industry best practices.
• Conduct thorough code reviews and share technical knowledge across the team.
• Mentor and support less experienced engineers.
• Work within an Agile environment and contribute to a culture of ownership and continuous improvement.

Essential Experience

• 5+ years of professional software development experience.
• Strong commercial experience with TypeScript, Node.js, and React.
• Excellent understanding of modern JavaScript fundamentals.
• Proven experience building and operating production systems in AWS, particularly services such as EKS, Lambda, and RDS.
• Strong experience designing and developing RESTful and GraphQL APIs.
• Practical experience with MongoDB, PostgreSQL, and Kafka.
• Solid experience working with event-driven architectures.
• Strong automated testing experience, particularly with Jest, Pact, and TDD principles.
• Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, ideally using GitHub Actions.
• Strong Infrastructure-as-Code experience using Terraform.
• Experience with Datadog or similar observability and monitoring platforms.
• Familiarity with Git, Jira, and Confluence within an Agile environment.
