Cost Accountant

Our client, based in Durbanville, is seeking an analytical and commercially minded Cost Accountant to join their dynamic finance team. Operating within a fast-paced production environment, this business offers a unique opportunity to work closely with operations and directly influence performance, profitability, and key investment decisions.

Purpose of the Role

You will bridge the gap between finance and operations by developing accurate costing models, analyzing performance, and identifying opportunities to drive efficiency and profitability. You will also collaborate with various department heads to ensure budgets remain strictly on track.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and continuously improve comprehensive product and service costing models.
• Analyze operational performance, cost drivers, profitability, and variances.
• Establish meaningful KPIs across production, maintenance, logistics, and asset utilization.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, management reporting, and high-level financial analysis.
• Identify targeted cost-saving opportunities and champion operational efficiency initiatives.
• Assist with financial modeling, investment assessments, tax compliance, and audit requirements.

Requirements

• BCom in Management Accounting, BTech in Cost & Management Accounting, or active CIMA qualification.
• 3 to 5+ years of experience within a manufacturing, production, engineering, mining, or similar industrial environment.
• Solid post-qualification experience in a Cost Accountant or Management Accountant role.
• Strong expertise in product costing, cost analysis, budgeting, and forecasting.
• A proactive, investigative mindset with strong commercial acumen and the confidence to challenge existing processes.
• Proficiency in Afrikaans and reliable own transport.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and hands-on experience with ERP and accounting systems.
